Setting Up Pocket ID with Passkey

Pocket ID provides secure, passwordless authentication using passkeys. This guide will walk you through setting up your first passkey at id.kenway.me .

What is a Passkey?

Passkeys are a modern authentication method that uses your device’s biometric authentication (like Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello) or a PIN to sign in. They’re more secure than passwords and easier to use - no more remembering complex passwords!

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Navigate to Pocket ID

Go to https://id.kenway.me  in your web browser.

2. Sign Up or Sign In

  • If you’re new to Pocket ID, click “Sign Up” to create an account
  • If you already have an account, click “Sign In”

3. Start Passkey Setup

Once you’re logged in:

  1. Navigate to your Account Settings or Security section
  2. Look for “Passkeys” or “Set up Passkey” option
  3. Click “Add Passkey” or “Create Passkey”

4. Create Your Passkey

Your browser will prompt you to create a passkey:

  1. Choose where to store your passkey:

    • This device - Stores the passkey on your current device (recommended for personal devices)
    • USB security key - Stores on a hardware security key (recommended for shared devices)
  2. Complete the authentication:

    • On Mac/iOS: Use Face ID or Touch ID
    • On Windows: Use Windows Hello (fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN)
    • On Android: Use fingerprint or screen lock
    • With security key: Follow the prompts to activate your key
  3. Give your passkey a name:

    • Enter a descriptive name like “My MacBook Pro” or “iPhone 15”
    • This helps you identify which device/key the passkey belongs to
  4. Confirm creation:

    • Click “Create” or “Done”
    • Your passkey is now saved!

5. Test Your Passkey

  1. Sign out of your Pocket ID account
  2. Sign back in using the passkey option
  3. Use your biometric authentication or PIN when prompted
  4. You should be successfully signed in!

Using Your Passkey

Once set up, signing in with your passkey is quick and easy:

  1. Go to id.kenway.me
  2. Click “Sign In”
  3. Select “Sign in with Passkey”
  4. Use your device’s biometric authentication or PIN
  5. You’re in!

Tips and Best Practices

Multiple Devices

  • Set up passkeys on multiple devices you regularly use (phone, laptop, tablet)
  • Each device can have its own passkey
  • If you lose a device, you can remove its passkey from your account settings

Backup Your Access

  • Set up multiple passkeys across different devices
  • Consider using a hardware security key as a backup
  • Keep a recovery method configured (email, phone number)

Security

  • Never share your passkey - it’s unique to your device
  • Keep your devices secure - use device locks and keep software updated
  • Review your passkeys regularly - remove any you no longer use

Troubleshooting

”Passkey not supported” error

  • Make sure you’re using a modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox latest versions)
  • Check that your device supports passkeys (most devices from 2018+ support them)
  • Ensure biometric authentication is enabled on your device

Can’t create passkey

  • Clear your browser cache and try again
  • Check your device settings - ensure biometrics are set up
  • Try a different browser if issues persist
  • Contact support if problems continue

Lost access to device

  • If you still have access to another device with a passkey, sign in and remove the lost device’s passkey
  • If you don’t have any passkeys available, use your recovery method (email or phone)
  • Contact support if you’re locked out
